Itinerary
Day 1: Puerto Valdezcaray
The Giant’s Challenge: Valdezcaray Pass
Your adventure begins with one of the most famous climbs in La Rioja. From the plains, you’ll head towards Ezcaray, the starting point of the ascent. The road winds through an impressive landscape of pines and beeches, gradually gaining altitude. The final stretch to the pass is the toughest, but the view of the Valdezcaray ski resort will fill you with satisfaction. The descent back is fast and will make you feel the breeze of victory.

Distance: 45–50 km
Elevation gain: 1,000–1,200 m
Profile: A classic out-and-back stage, with a steady climb and a thrilling descent.
Day 2: Puerto Herrera
The Pass of Rioja Alavesa: Herrera
Today you’ll head towards Rioja Alavesa. You’ll ride along quiet roads that lead you to the foot of the Herrera Pass. The climb through Rivas de Tereso is a true test of endurance, with demanding gradients. Once at the summit, the viewpoint offers a spectacular panorama of the Rioja Alavesa vineyards and the majestic Sierra de Cantabria—a view that makes every pedal stroke worthwhile.

Elevation gain: 1,000–1,100 m

Day 3: Puerto Moncalvillo
The Balcony of La Rioja: Moncalvillo
This stage takes you to one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in La Rioja. From Santo Domingo, the route heads to Cárdenas, a village full of history and charm. From there, the real challenge begins: the ascent to Moncalvillo Pass. The steep ramps will make you work hard, but the reward at the top is a panoramic view over the Ebro Valley and the Sierra de la Demanda—a landscape that will truly take your breath away.

Day 4: Puerto Bureba
The Colors of La Rioja and Burgos
Today’s circular route lets you explore the borders of La Rioja and the province of Burgos. The route takes you through Cerezo de Río Tirón, a village steeped in history, before tackling the ascent to the Portillo del Busto Viewpoint Pass. Once you reach the top, the descent guides you across the majestic plain toward the Monastery of Bujedo. A finish that blends nature and history before returning to Santo Domingo.

Profile: A loop with a challenging climb and a flatter ending, perfect for a full day of cycle touring.
Day 5: Puerto Cruz de la Demanda
The High-Mountain Stage: Cruz de la Demanda
Get ready for a high-mountain stage. Today’s route takes you up one of the toughest and most legendary climbs in the region: the Cruz de la Demanda Pass. The road winds upward with demanding ramps that will test both your mental and physical strength. The scenery becomes increasingly alpine as you near the summit, where the Cross awaits as a symbol of your personal victory.

Day 6: Pazuengos
The Pazuengos Adventure
Your grand finale reserves an unexpected challenge. Today you won’t climb a pass, but a road that leads to the remote village of Pazuengos. The ascent from Santurdejo is brutal, marked by extreme ramps that will make you wonder if your bike can handle them. The landscape makes up for the effort, and the silence of the mountains will completely envelop you. A memorable way to close your adventure.

Elevation gain: 900–1,000 m
Profile: A short stage, but with steep gradients concentrated in tough ramps that make it one of the most demanding of the tour.
